My first project – a dress for my niece

Burda Child's Dress

This was very much a test of whether I had the ability to make clothes. I was taught to sew at school but apart from cushions I’ve done very little since. Watching the Great British Sewing Bee this year reminded me of how much I enjoy creating things and how my office job in marketing just doesn’t use my brain in this way.

So off I went to John Lewis and apprehensively pawed over the pattern books. In the end I decided upon this Burda Easy dress (pattern 9650). It took me about two days to finish and that was with reminding myself how to use the machine. Overall I was very happy with the result and my niece looks very cute in it.

And there will be more clothes to come…I just need to work out who benefits from the next stop on my sewing adventure.
