Melbourne Photo A Day: Week two

23 Feb

Day 8: YELLO!

yellow tomatoes

Sunday, February 16: It was a busy day of packing and moving into my new apartment and I confess, I forgot to take a photo until late in the day.  So searching around the flat for something to use, I remembered these yellow tomatoes I had bought earlier in the day.  Not the best photo I’ve ever taken but the tomatoes were scrumptious – sweet, fresh and full of goodness.

Day 9: Brucey Bonus

Cafe Bruce, St Kilda

Monday, February 17: After a morning in the library I popped to Cafe Bruce next door for lunch and was amused to find the eponymous owner had chosen to dedicate the whole cafe to his name sakes.  Bruce Forsyth, Bruce Lee, Lenny Bruce, Robert the Bruce and even Bruce from the Sweet Valley High books.  I’m still confused by the rabbit though – any ideas?

Day 10: Deckchairs and Fed Square

Federation Square, Melbourne

Tuesday, February 18: A deckchair, some sunshine and the ice skating – the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon waiting for class to start. I ❤ love Fed Square.

Day 11: Unwelcome post

Australian cricket stamps

Wednesday, February 19: Not sure these stamps are going to be particularly welcomed when my postcards land in the UK.

Day 12: Pick up Sticks

My namesake wine

February 20: I’ve had a number of nicknames over the years, Vics, Vicsplat, Vicstar and so on and so forth.  At uni it was Sticks, so it was rather opportune to stumble upon this bottle of red whilst out with Kathryn, my very wonderful Melbourne-based uni mate.

Day 13: Growing ideas

Temple of Winds

February 21: A trip to Melbourne’s Royal Botanical Gardens marked the first outing for me and my sketch book.  Looking around the gardens gave me plenty of inspiration for my planned textile designs and was a good reminder to look at things from a different perspective.  This is the inside of the dome of the Temple of Winds.  I’d taken a few shots of the temple that weren’t quite right so whist no one was looking I took this lying on the floor of the temple. I love how the red pops against the tranquil blue and green.

Day 14: Change of Plan

The Palais Theatre St Kilda

February 22: I had planned on taking today’s photo at Melbourne’s White Night event but after a full day shopping at Chadstone with the aforementioned Kat my feet couldn’t quite take a trip into the city.  So whilst looking around on my journey home, the crowds outside The Palais caught my eye.  I love this building, and right next to Luna Park, it always strikes me that it would be well placed in a horror film.
